Mit dem streng limitierten 4-LP-Set "Verve Records: The Sound of America" feiert das legendäre Label seinen 70. Geburtstag. Für alle Fans von Jazz und besonderen Schallplatten-Leckerbissen ist dieses Set ebenfalls ein Grund zum Feiern: 35 fachmännisch ausgewählte Klassiker aus dem an Klassikern reichen Repertoire des Labels, aufgenommen im Zeitraum von 1944 bis 1960 – den Jahren, in denen der legendäre Produzent Norman Granz das Label besaß und prägte. Von den Gesangsgrößen Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Anita O’Day, Mel Tormé, Bing Crosby und Fred Astaire über swingende Jazz-Giganten wie Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, Charlie "Bird" Parker, Oscar Peterson und Milt Jackson bis hin zu Beat-Poet Jack Kerouac sowie den Stand-up-Comedians Mort Sahl, Jonathan Winters und Shelley Berman – auf diesen vier LPs wird eine akustische Welt wieder lebendig, die nicht nur den Jazz, sondern das gesamte amerikanische Musikgeschäft nachhaltig prägte.
