Organist Big John Patton was already a firmly established figure in Blue Note soul jazz when he recorded his seventh album "That Certain Feeling" in March 1968. For the session, he assembled a first-rate quartet featuring Junior Cook on tenor saxophone, Jimmy Ponder on guitar and Clifford Jarvis on drums. The focus is firmly on Patton's own compositions, which expand the classic organ jazz sound with new textures and forms. Tracks such as "String Bean", "I Want To Go Home" and "Dirty Fingers" move between deep soul jazz grooves, funk and modal passages, driven by the powerful interplay of the band. "That Certain Feeling" captures Big John Patton deeply rooted in the groove while remaining open to the new directions that were increasingly shaping jazz in the late 1960s.

 

This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is stereo, all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl and packaged in a single sleeve at Optimal.
