Melodies that endure: With this 14-CD box set, Decca France celebrates legendary film composer Francis Lai in the most comprehensive anthology of his work to date. From "A Man and a Woman" to the Oscar-winning score for "Love Story", the collection spans five decades of emotion, distinctive musical colours and unforgettable cinematic moments. Fourteen thematic CDs bring together original soundtracks, songs, cover versions and new recordings. Rediscovered original tapes and previously unreleased recordings offer fresh perspectives on one of French and European cinema's most significant composers. Featured performers of his songs include Édith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, Astrud Gilberto, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones and Elton John. Joe Hisaishi and Thomas Dutronc contribute personal tributes. The TikTok success of "La Leçon particulière" in 2023 showed how Francis Lai's music connects generations: his melancholy melodies, but also infectious grooves and dramatic compositions continue to captivate listeners today. The edition is presented in a hardback coffee-table book format with extensive liner notes.
