Zbigniew Namysłowski is — if comparisons can be made — often revered as the John Coltrane of Poland. "Lola" was the first album recorded by a Polish group outside the "Iron Curtain" (at Decca Studio No. 3 in August 1964), and it was produced by Mike Vernon, who would go on to produce Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, and John Mayall among others. Made up of seven original compositions, and a new take on the Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II standard 'Ol' Man River', 'Lola' draws on Polish folklore for inspiration, particularly highlander music. The "British Jazz Explosion Series" goes continental. This release will be the first time in 60 years this album has been available on vinyl — it’s about time!
